Curriculum Vitae
Artist Statement
Poppy Scoulding is a young, female artist who works in mixed media including live art, performance to camera and installations. Scoulding will be continuing her studies at the University of Lincoln to develop her practice further.
Throughout her work, a theme of human emotions and sensation is a heavy influence including the human reactions to disgust and lying. Her performative works often include a large installation – mocking the theatrics of set and costume design – with many actors often adopting characters instead of a self-performance. She states that this approach helps to communicate her work to a larger audience by removing the traditional gallery setting from her work, even if placed in a gallery.
Through her practice, Scoulding aims to challenge the negative and positive connotations people have towards ‘emotions’, for example, through the combination of humour and disgust, she influenced many people to view the feeling of disgust in a more positive light in her piece “4 Clowns Walk Into a Party…” (2019).
